Zhengzhou University is the largest universities (in terms of student number) in China with 110 bachelor, 256 master and 127 doctor programs in 12 disciplines. Currently, there are 72,000 students studying in 46 schools or departments in ZZU. Among them, more than 2,700 international students are pursuing their bachelor, master or doctor degree in ZZU. Zhengzhou University has witnessed its rapid development from a local institution into the global renowned university. In the U.S. News Ranking, ZZU ranks 213 globally and 27 in China. Moreover, 18 disciplines of ZZU ranks the top 1%, including 5 such as Chemistry, clinical medicine ranks the top 1‰ in the ESI index ranking. Zhengzhou University has sponsored numerous students to pursue their degree each year since 2017. In 2024, more than 500 new applicants were awarded with various types of scholarship, despite other university cut their scholarship seat during the period of COVID-19. Zhengzhou University makes great efforts to continue the financial support to excellent international applicants to study in Zhengzhou University in 2025. This is the only Chinese university with so many scholarship seats. Majority of excellent master students of Zhengzhou University will be sponsored to continue their doctor with full scholarship. ELIGIBILITY

The following are general requirements for application to ZZU International Graduate Programs.

*Eligibility:Applicants should be non-Chinese citizens with a valid passport.

*Health and Character: Applicants should be in good health and possess good character, which includes being physically and mentally healthy and meeting the medical examination requirements of both the country and the university. Applicants should also have no criminal record and maintain a friendly attitude towards China. Furthermore, applicants must be well-behaved and willing to comply with Chinese laws and regulations, as well as the rules of ZZU.

*Educational Qualifications:

       •     For Master's program applicants: A Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent degree (or above) recognized in China is required.

       •     For Doctoral program applicants: A Master’s degree or an equivalent degree (or above) recognized in China is required.

February 208, 2025Deadline for Type B Chinese Government Scholarship (CGS) applications

February 28, 2025Deadline for the 1st Round of President Scholarship of Zhengzhou University (PhD program only) applications

April 30, 2025Deadline for Type A SGS Scholarship applications

May 31, 2025:  Deadline for the 2nd Round of President Scholarship of Zhengzhou University (PhD program only) applications

May 31, 2025:  Deadline for Henan Provincial Government Scholarship (Master program only) applications

September 2025:  Registration

HOW TO APPLY

Step 1: Please contact professors in similar research fields and get their acceptance letter first. (Applicant can visit the webpage of each school in the English website of Zhengzhou University for related information of Professors: http://international.zzu.edu.cn/en/school?cid=3&pid=3)

Step 2: Complete the Online Application

Complete and submit an online application at ZZU web portal ( https://zzu.17gz.org )  before the application deadline. If you wish to apply for the scholarship at the same time, please complete the application before the scholarship deadline.


 

MATERIALS TO PREPARE

1. Degree Certificates: Please provide scanned copies of your degree certificates. Applicants who have not yet graduated at the time of application should submit an official letter from their current university indicating the expected graduation date.

2. Transcripts: Please submit scanned copies of your transcripts. Applicants for the Master’s program are required to provide their undergraduate transcripts, while Doctoral program applicants must submit both undergraduate and graduate transcripts.

3. Language test report.

4. Scanned copy of passport (ordinary passport).

5. Passport-size Photo.

6. Personal Statement and Study Plan or Research Proposal (for PhD).

7. Two Letters of Academic Recommendation: Please provide two letters of recommendation from scholars who are associate professors or higher, or from senior professionals in a related academic field. Follow the instructions on the online system for submitting recommendation letters, or upload letters that include original signatures.

10. Non-criminal records certificate

 Note: If your documents are not in English or Chinese, please have them translated into either English or Chinese by an authorized translation agency. Afterward, upload both the translated documents and the originals to the application system.

SCHOLARSHIPS

There are following types of scholarship for postgraduate students: Chinese Government Scholarship, Henan Government Scholarship, and President Scholarship of Zhengzhou University.

Chinese Government Scholarship is full scholarship available for both Master and PhD applicants. There are two options for Chinese government scholarship application: Type A, student can apply through Chinese Embassies/Consulates or other dispatched institution in their home country: Type B, student can apply directly through Zhengzhou University.  For Type A Chinese government scholarship application, student apply through the Chinese Embassies or Consulates in their home countries. The application schedule varies by country (usually from November to April). Please consult the Chinese Embassy/Consulate regarding its application schedule, eligibility, requirements, procedures, necessary documents, agency number, program categories, and other relevant information in advance. For contact information of Chinese Embassies and Consulates, please visit the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China at http://www.fmprc.gov.cn/mfa_eng/.  For Type B Chinese government scholarship application, applicants can visit the webpage of Zhengzhou University for detailed information, convince professor to issue acceptance letter, and follow the online instructions. It is important to complete the scholarship application procedures on time, according to the university's requirements. The agency code for ZZU is 10459.  Please note that applicants applying for scholarships through Chinese Embassies/Consulates must also should following the instruction to submit their application online at the web portal of both Chinese Scholarship Council and Zhengzhou University: https://www.campuschina.org/scholarships and https://zzu.17gz.org.

Henan Government Scholarship is a partial scholarship available for Master program; applicants can choose this scholarship directly in online application system of Zhengzhou University.

President Scholarship of Zhengzhou University is a full scholarship available for PhD; applicants can choose this scholarship directly in online application system of Zhengzhou University. The first round selection will be conducted together with that of Type B Chinese government scholarship. Applicants of first around should also apply for Type B Chinese Government Scholarship.
